Hi there gang! I have been working on a project for a while and have not posted in my blog. The project was the design development and putting online a large group of service oriented websites. In thinking on what the future would look like I felt websites that offered services was a better choice than those that offered products. My thinking was that the big corporations would dominate the search market for common products and I did not want to develop any websites that sold niche products that would have to be inventory or have drop shipped so I decided to work on common everyday services that people would be looking for online. Things such as termite inspection, financial planners. personal trainers, dance classes and wedding photography services.

As more and more people go online which will be the place to be for coming generations, I felt I could compete online with servicemagic.com and the online yellow pages. In addition, when researching search traffic numbers, I found that a lot of people now search for services online instead of using their local print directories. I will be posting a lot more on this so come back soon.

Just been reading about the new Tlds that ICAAN is considering for the future. When, and that’s a big question, they finally get here I think it will just be confusion and to make money for ICAAN and the registrars. My advice to all business owners and domainers is to go out and register as many good generic .com terms as you can. Watching TV all I tend to see now, are more and more 3 word .com terms being used in ads for products and services. I believe that this trend will continue and that .com will always remain the Tld of choice. I myself have acquired many three and four word search terms that I hope to develop in the future and that I believe will only increase in value over time. Many will disagree with me but I believe in the long term I will be proven right. Stay tuned.

I came across a great site with an unusual concept. It is RootOrange.com. They have developed a concept that we here at WIMS have been thinking about while acquiring our vast domain portfolio. They use easily remembered common keyword terms which they then market to geo targeted locations. It is a simple concept with enormous potential. If you have a good generic domain name contact them. Well today is yahoo’s 15th birthday. It seems like the Internet has been around forever.
Actually it an infant at best. Because so much of our lives now revolves around electronic devices and the Internet,
we just assume that’s the way its been forever. I can only imagine what the Internet and instant communication
will be 15 years from now. The first words that I learned when given my first computer was “all you need to lnow is Yahoo”. It makes me laugh every time I think about it. Well have a great day and remember “Yahoo”.

Big news came a few days ago. The European Union and U.S. Justice Department finally
gave their okay on the Yahoo-Bing marketing agreement. It is now officially sanctioned.
This means that the joint relationship will now be the second biggest search marketer.
With Bing’s approximate 10% and Yahoo with about 15% of the search market they now will
command about 25% of the search market, while Google still retains about 70%. Bing will
command the search portion of their services, while Yahoo will market the large advertisers.
It know behooves people who just optimized for Google to now optimize to get the Bing-Yahoo
search market. As far as our company, we have been optimizing for all three from the beginning
of our business. You can see from our efforts that we rank high in all three search engines

Google has activated its universal search mode which will not only bring in websites in the search results, but blogs, facebook pages, tweeter pages and news and other various information. It may ultimately cause organic search results to fall. I myself due not like the extraneous material, as I call it, in my search results. When I due a search I want to get the best websites that contain the information that I am seeking in my search. I know that this new process is here to stay,however, I feel in the long run this type of search will adversely affect the ability of “search” to bring the most relevant material to the visitor. many due not feel this way but we will have to wait to see how this develops.

I have been recently thinking about how the search engines rank websites and one of the clearest finding is that if you have an exact match domain name for the search string entered it is relatively easy to get a top seach engine ranking. That is not to say all exact matches will get top ranking, however, if the match is exact and the site is somewhat optimized it has a good chance of being high on the front page of the search engines. I will be running and experiment shortly on a domain name that I have that gets a lot of searches after the first of the year for income tax that will be due in April. Google has announced that it will be bringing more kinds of varied results when one does a search. I believe in innovation but not in confusion. If I am doing a specific search for something, I want to get the most relevant results which Google , I must admit, does the best at this time. I also noticed Bing is adding different modes to their search. I guess that is what is meant by universal search. I think the best preference is to bring the most relevant information from the most relevant websites. I most often find myself having to do multiple searches in order to find what I am looking for. I believe most people find this to be true. Please keep it simple, most of us are stupid.

You are seeing more and more exact match domain names on the front pages of the search engines. I believe that the search engines feel these must be the most relevant sites for the exact search query. It only takes common sense
to see that the words that you enter for your search query should bring up the websites that have that query as their domain names. I believe that these websites will be the most valuable of all websites as time goes by. Most of these names have been scooped up by domain investors and only a relative few have been developed.
